Agioritikos: The first Regional Wine of Greece
“Someone or something that originates from Mount Athos” (Agion Oros in Greek): that is the definition of the name “Agioritikos” {ah-yior-hee-tee-kos}.
A name honorary given by Evangelos Tsantalis as the introduction of this wine had a purpose: to introduce to the Greek wine market the concept of “origin”, the value of the homeland of the wine, the importance of the vineyard. Evangelos Tsantalis’ commitment to that goal was rewarded in 1981 when “Agioritikos was recognized as the first Regional Wine of Greece.
Yet the appellation has not been the only innovation presented by “Agioritikos”; indeed it has been -and remains- one of the major best sellers in the domestic market with outstanding record sales.
Every detail of the wine (wine, varieties, branding, packaging, promotion etc) was carefully planned and supported by a marketing-oriented product development strategy of no prior to Greece. Today there is no argue that “Agioritikos” has been among the very first wine brands of Greece with strong consumer loyalty that set the pace for development of the Greek winemaking industry.
Bright rose color with a salmon-pink shade. On the nose, intense aromas red fruits and strawberry jam. Dry palate, with crisp acidity that balances the fruit-forward flavors and leads to a refreshing finish.
